Women's healthcare needs are different than those of men. While many aspects overlap, we are learning more about the specific differences in the physiology of men and women. For instance, some conditions are unique to women, like pregnancy, gynecological diseases, menopause and lactation issues. Others are more common in women such as breast cancer, multiple sclerosis, osteoporosis and incontinence. Several conditions are experienced differently in women than in men, such as heart disease, lung cancer and pain. At St. Patrick Hospital’s Women’s Care Center, we are dedicated to providing thorough, compassionate care based on the specific needs of women throughout their lifespan.
The Women’s Care Center is home to women's services throughout the organization. From the holistic practice approach to care in our clinic, the various clinical services and programs we offer, to the public events in our Celebrating Women Series, we strive to meet the health needs of women with compassion, respect and excellence.

What's New at Women's Care...
Now at Women’s Care, we not only focus on Body, Mind and Spirit, but also the effect of the environment and of relationships on our health and wellness. We are calling this approach EMBERS:
Emotion, Mind, Body, Environment, Relationships, and Spirit.
Also, we are announcing a new healthcare delivery model called "A Morning of Wellness". Women can see their provider and attend educational sessions by experts all in a morning once a year at the time of their annual physical. This Celebrating Women event celebrates these two new directions for Women's Care.

Dr. Georgia Milan joins Women's Care Center
In April 2010, Dr. Georgia Milan joined Women's Care Center as Medical Director and healthcare provider, with a focus on Family Practice. Dr. Milan's years of experience in our community, and focus on compassionate, holistic care are a perfect fit with our Women's Care values.
Two new Advanced Practice Nurses have also joined the Women's Care Center. Vicki Thuesen, a Family Nurse Practitioner and Women's Health Nurse Practitioner, has 30 years of experience in caring for women. Mary Huddle, Certified Nurse Midwife, has cared for women in a variety of settings, and has special interest in maintaining health and wellness. Both are taking new patients.
We also have several new nurses and administrative staff. Come and say hello!
Hidegard of Bingen Celebration
As part of our 10th anniversary of our Celebrating Women series, in March of 2010 we focused on the visionary healer and spiritual leader Hildegard de Bingen, a 10th century German nun. With the University of Montana and Montana Capella musicians, we created and participated in a four day celebration. This included a panel discussion of scholars about her life, a recital of musical pieces composed in her honor, a concert of her music, and a reenactment of her character in four parts at St. Patrick Hospital. A very unique experience, we brought her 900 years forward in time to better understand her amazing contributions to her time, still reverberating in ours.

Breast Center of Excellence
In October 2009, St. Patrick Hospital Breast Center was awarded the Three Year Full Accreditation beginning October 2009 through October 2012, from the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC). We are the only fully accredited breast program in western Montana.
This NAPBC is a program administered by the American College of Surgeons. Accreditation by the NAPBC is only given to those centers that have voluntarily committed to provide the highest level of quality breast care and that undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance. During the survey process, the center must demonstrate compliance with standards established by the NAPBC for treating women who are diagnosed with the full spectrum of breast disease. The standards include proficiency in the areas of: center leadership, clinical management, research, community outreach, professional education, and quality improvement. A breast center that achieves NAPBC accreditation has demonstrated a firm commitment to offer its patients every significant advantage in their battle against breast disease.
Receiving care at a NAPBC-accredited center ensures that a patient will have access to:
- Comprehensive care, including a full range of state-of-the-art services
- A multidisciplinary team approach to coordinate the best treatment options
- Information about ongoing clinical trials and new treatment options
- Quality breast care close to home
