The Emergency Department (ED) at St. Patrick Hospital serves a geographical area covering western Montana and northern Idaho. We are the region’s leader when it comes to providing critical care, collaborating with emergency care teams from as far away as Sheridan, Montana and Salmon, Idaho. We are the only Level II Trauma Center, Accredited Stroke Center and Accredited Chest Pain Center in the region.

In a typical day our team of highly trained providers treat illness and injuries ranging from a cut finger to major trauma resulting from an injury accident. Our specially trained Pediatric and Advanced Cardiac Life Support Registered Nurses, Emergency Medicine Board Certified Physicians and support staff are prepared for the most complex and challenging patients that may arrive day or night without notice. The ED is equipped with a full language interpreter service and a team of case managers and clinical social workers to assure the details of your ED stay, hospital admission or transfer are taken care of.

In 2008, our department treated over 25,000 patients with 20% requiring hospital admission. With Missoula and the surrounding area growing every year, the staff of the ED is dedicated to continually reviewing and improving patient care and visitor’s experiences.
